Tubotel Review: Living In a Cute Tube
Staying in Tubotel is one of the best experience I've ever had. Located in Cenang Beach (the most crowded are in Langkawi, Malaysia), Tubotel offers you a unique and priceless experience. How it feels to stay or live in a tube or a jar (yes, I was like living in an Aloe Vera jar from Nature Republic) lol.
Someone said that adventure is the best way to learn. Choosing Tubotel as a part of your traveling plan will make your adventure and learning process better. Here is the review of Tubotel from me. Hope that it will guide you well.
Room
There are 3 types of room here, Sea View Tube Room, Garden View Tube Room, and Dormitory Room. I stayed in Garden View Tube Room. I chose it because the price is more affordable. Even though the view of Sea View Tube Room is better than Garden View Tube, but it was okay. You can go to the main terrace to enjoy the sea view or sunset.
For SeaView Tube and Garden View Tube Room, there are bed with air conditioner, a small and long flat table in the corner of the bed with two bottles of mineral water, two cups and a few packs of tea and coffee in the corner of the bed, and a little bucket under the bed.
The size of the bed is enough for 2 - 3 people. The door made from glass and covered by a curtain. Also, they provide a little terrace in front of the room with 2 colorful chairs for you to chill out and talk with your travel mate.
Facilities
There are some facilities Tubotel offers to you. Here are some facilities you can use there.
1. Main Terrace
I don't know exactly how to call it, I just simply say "the main terrace". Well, the main terrace is a large and open room close to the sea and here are various forms of chairs for you to relax and chill out. You can enjoy a sunrise or a sunset view from here. If you stay in the Sea View Tube Room, you don't have to go to the main terrace to enjoy the sunrise or sunset view.
3. Shared Bathroom
There isn't a private bathroom in a room here. So you can use a shared bathroom to clean your body. They provide body wash for guests here. There are seven rooms. The bathroom shared by man and woman, so you have to be so you have to be more careful if someone will peek at you lol. No, I'm kidding. It is okay to take a bath in a few times there. Btw, the color of the doors is so cheerful and make me happy everytime i look it.
If you're a Muslim you probably need a musholla room to do Muslim pray because it's rather difficult to do in room because there's not enough space to pray, or if you want to do it on the bed. If you're tall, I recommend you to do pray in musholla because I bet you can't stand on the bed.
Well, Tubotel provides a Musholla but it's not too good (i forgot to take a photo of it). The very small size of the room (it's only for 2 people) and there's only one Muslim's woman prayer dress.
5. Food and Drinks
Actually, I don't really give my attention to the food and drinks they sell there much. I only try their breakfast food. The system of breakfast for the guest there is a little bit unique for me. You will all get two pieces of toast bread with butter and jam, a complimentary dish and a cup of drink that you can choose by your self. There 3-4 options for the complimentary dish, there are pancakes, eggs and sausages, and others (i forgot what else lol). For a drink, you can choose tea or orange juice. I think it was a simple breakfast but the taste is very good.
6. Luggage Room
There's a little luggage room in the corner of Tubotel lobby. Well, I also forgot to take a photo of it. So if you want to explore Langkawi but you have to check out, you can put your luggage and other stuff in this room. I did it when I wanted to go to Sky Bridge at 11 AM, and it was impossible for us to take our luggage there so we deposited our luggage here. It was safe!
7. Parking Lot
If you rent a bike or a car, you can park it in Tubotel Parking Lot. The parking lot located in front of Tubotel. There isn't a clear fence for a parking area. I think it's a little unsafe, but nothing happened to my rental motorbike when I stay there. Btw, the wall of the parking lot is very cute. I love it much.
Price
For Sea View Tube RoomThe price is around 110 - 130 RM and breakfast included. For Garden View Tube RoomThe price is around 80 - 90 RM and breakfast included. You can choose the room excluded breakfast, reduce the price around 13-14RM for the option. But I highly recommend you to try the simple but tasty breakfast here I told before.
(+) Pros:
1. New Experience
Maybe we used to stay in a large room with a bed and other facilities in there, but not with Tubotel. You'll stay in a bed, yes just a bed. You can gain new experience how it feels to sleep in a jar. It was very fun yet absurd lol.
2. Affordable Price
The price is more affordable than other hotels near it How can I say the price was affordable? Yes. Because with the price offered you can get a pretty impressive breakfast, also with a beautiful sea view and other new priceless experiences you'll gain.
3. Comfortable Bed
Although it rather shocked me to see the size of the room, the bed and the atmosphere is very comfortable. I even think it's enough for 3 people because there's only a bed in the room. I slept with one person so we left a lot of space. Also with a small room, the air conditioner is colder and very comfortable that will make you sleep tight.
4. Nice Place to Chill Out
Other than it has a great sea view, it has the best place to chill. there are so many chairs to you enjoy a cup of orange juice while eating a chip with tartar sauce. Also, there's an area that provides so many bean bags so you can relax your body and soul there while enjoying the sea view.
5. Fun and Cheerful Interior
I bet you'll happy to see so many colors there! Yes, the wall, chairs, doors, curtains, wall decors, they all are so colorful and brightly painted. Also, the place is so aesthetic and instagrammable. So you don't have to worry if you don't have any photo stocks to post. :p
(-) Cons:
1. Little Space
I've told you that if space is little, it's still comfortable to sleep. But you'll difficult to open your suitcase or do the prayer for Muslims. They only provide a little flat bucket under the bed to put your stuff. If you want to open the suitcase, you have to open the door and put it on the bed or you can open the suitcase on a terrace in front of your room. Then if you want to do Muslim prayer, you have to do it on the bed or you have to go to the musholla.
3. Less Privacy
The door is made from glass and there is only a curtain to cover the glass. So, if I already cover the glass door with the curtain, I still feel much worry. Also, you'll get caught if you peek at other people outside lol.
3. Shared Bathroom (By Men and Women)
I already expected that there isn't a private bathroom and it will be shared with other guests, but I didn't expect that it will be shared by men and women. It will be troublesome if you wear a hijab so you have to wear your hijab in the bathroom area. Other than that, the wall
4. A Little Messy Terrace (For Garden Tube)
The garden in Garden View Tube room is a little bit dirty. There are some rubbish like dry leaves and laying stones on irregular land.
Well, that's a review of Tubotel from me. Overall i recommend you to stay here and feel the unique and a cheerful atmosphere here. :)
