A Simple Guide to Langkawi

I've told you a story about Penang on my last post. Now i've to tell you that we continued our trip to Langkawi. Langkawi is an archipelago made up of many islands (i actually don't know the exact amount of the island) on west coast of Malaysia.

Langkawi was known as "A Jewel of Kedah"

I think we made a great decision to visit Langkawi, it was  beautiful yet adventurous. Turqoise sea, bright sky, green forest, and many more. Just like in Penang, unfortunately we only had a day in Langkawi. But it wasn't a big problem for us, becausewe enjoyed the adventurous process of getting there and fun activities we did. We didn't make a plan so we thank to God for every little thing happenned in our last holiday. Well, let me share to you all about what we did there. We weren't an expert, but i hope it can be a simple guide to you if you wanna visit the beautiful Langkawi.

By the way, i've to tell first the reason why we wanna visit Langkawi. When we met to plan our trip to Kuala Lumpur and Penang, we accidentally saw a fascinating sky bridge with a beautiful view on Pinterest. We thought that the place was a must in our bucket list. So,we added Langkawi as our third destination in Malaysia. Voila! We made it true. We had no regrets left.

How To Get There
We went to Langkawi from Penang. There are three ways if you want to get there from Penang: you can get there by plane; you can get there by Ferry directly; you can get there by bus and continue your trip by Ferry. If you're a backpacker (or if you're a "kere traveller" like us lol), the last one is recommend for you because it's a cheapest way. The trip took arround 3.5 - 4 hours. There are four routes if you wanna get there by bus.
1. Sungai Nibong - Alor Setar
2. Sungai Nibong - Kuala Perlis
3. Butterworth - Alor Setar
4. Butterworth - Kuala Perlis
Before i tell you which way we choosed, i have to explain more about this. Like i told in last post, Sungai Nibong and Butterworth is a bus terminal in Penang. Sungai Nibong located in Penang island, while Butterworth located in main land. If you choose Sungai Nibong as your start departure point, you don't have to take a ferry to cross the sea from Penang island to main land because the bus will cross the sea through the bridge. But if you choose Butterworth as your start departure point, you have to take ferry to the main land from Jetty (I forget what Jetty or Ferry Terminal name in Penang Island). The total trip time of both of them is actually the same. It takes arround 20-30 minutes to arrive in main land. So you can choose Penang Jetty to Butterworth or directly going to Sungai Nibong.
For arrival point, you can choose Kuala Perlis or Alor Setar. If you choose Alor Setar, you have to take a cab or Grab to arrive in Ferry Terminal. It takes arround 2.5 hours to arrive in Alor Setar from Butterworth or Sungai Nibong. But if you choose Kuala Perlis, you can get to Ferry Terminal by foot because Ferry Terminal located next to Kuala Perlis Bus Terminal. The total trip time is arround 2.5 hours from Butterworth, and 3 hours from Sungai Nibong to Kuala Perlis.
A recommended way to get to Langkawi from me is Sungai Nibong to Kuala Perlis. First, you don't have to take Ferry to arrive in main land. Then, you don't have to take cab or Grab to arrive in Ferry Terminal. The Bus ticket price is RM 20. The price After that, you have to take a Kuah Jetty, a ferry Terminal in Langkawi. The ferry ticket price is RM 18 for adult.
Actually Sungai Nibong to Kuala Perlis is a way we choosed at first but but we were left by the bus because we came late to Sungai Nibong so we took Grab and got on the bus from Butterworth. So you have to pay attention to bus and ferry schedule. Fyi, bus ticket price depends on the schedule and bus brand.

Where To Stay
Before you continue your trip in Langkawi, you have to choose your destination and where to stay in Langkawi. I choosed Pantai Cenang or Cenang Beach to stay. Pantai Cenang is busiest beach town in Langakwi. The reason why we stayed at Cenang because it's pretty close with the main purpose why we go to here, Langkawi Sky Bridge! Other than that, here we can find amazing beach, a diverse mix of restaurant and cafes, duty-free outleets, and souvenir shops along its picuresque beach strip. If i'm not mistaken Langkawi is also renowned with its nightlife. By the way, we stayed at a unique hotel here named Tubotel.

"Tubotel" Means "Tube Hotel"

I'll tell you and review the hotel in the next post. Just wait for it, ok?!

Pantai Cenang (Cenang Beach)
Well, we went to Pantai Cenang from Kuah Jetty by taxy. The price offered was RM 30, but we bargained for the best price. We got the price down and it was RM 25. The trip from Kuah to Pantai Cenang took arround 30 minutes. When we arrived at the hotel, we dropped our luggages and motorcycle rent. Rent from T-Shoppe (It stand for Tourish Needs Shop, the shop located in beach strip) starting RM 25 / 24 hours. It's better if you have international driving licence, but it's ok if you have local driving licence.
After that, we toured the town and decided to make a stop at the beach. Just like other beaches, you can enjoy the soft beach sand, collect the shell, play with beach water, as well as drink a coconut while enjoying the beach.

At first we planned to wait for sunset but we were bored for waiting lol, so we walked along beach strip. The things you can do here are shopping some unique Langkawi souvenirs like refrigator magnet or key chain with eagle on it (yes, because eagle is a symbol of Langkawi). Other than that, you can get massage, enjoy street musician (they mostly sing Indonesia songs lol), try some tasty street foods and local seafoods.

You also can enjoy family massage here

Our dinner, delicious sea food!

By the way we only bought a grilled fish with sauteed kale because the price was quite expensive lol. We spent around RM 50 - RM 60 for two of us. I'm a little sorry for not being maximal in eating seafood because money can be found, but not with the precious moment. Well, I can't entirely blame both of us because our money was also limited lol. So if you go to here just try the local seafood, it was great!
After having dinner and talking about life till late night, we went to hotel and slept. In tomorrow morning, we were late to wake up because we were so tired but it was our best sleep we've had while having a trip. Even the hotel was so unique, but it was comfortable.
Then we have a breakfast and check out. We leaved our luggages in the luggage room of the hotel and went to Langkawi Sky Bridge. The distance from the hotel to Langkawi Sky Bridge was about 11 km. We went there by motor cylce. The view along the trip was very very very beautiful! Masha Allah, I didn't even wink my eyes in the first sight. A really beautiful turquoise sea. Yes, it was just a sea, but it was beautiful. I even forgot to take the photo of it lol.

Langkawi Sky Bridge
After a half hour trip from hotel, we arrived at Langkawi Geopark at 11 AM. Langkawi Sky Bridge is a part of Langkawi Geopark. You can find many attractive rides here like Sky Cab, Sky Bridge, Sky Pos, Sky Trail, Sky Boutique, Sky Bistro, Sky Adventure Park, Sky Dome, Sky Glide, Sky Trex and 6D Cinemotion.

The entrance to Sky Cab

The normal price was RM 50 for foreigner and express lane prices was RM 90 for foreigner. We bought the normal ticket. It was inclusive of entrance to Sky Cab, Sky Dome, Sky Rex and 3D Art Langkawi (Yes, we have to pay RM 5 for entering Sky Bridge at the top of the hill). After buying the ticket, we enter the queue. Coming at 11 am was a mistake for us. The queue of entrance for it was so long, and we had to ride the Sky Cab first to get in Sky Bridge so we queued two times.
The first queue was about 1 hour and then we rode the cable car. When we arrived at the half of hill, we enjoyed a very beautiful view for a while.

After that, we entered the second queue for riding cable car again and we got down the hill through the Geo Forest by foot for getting to Sky Bridge. Voila! The scenery and sensation were perfectly worth the queue time and the price we paid. We couldn't stop saying Masha Allah and thanked to God for what we saw at that time. By the way it was so windy in that day, the wind blew so hard so you have to be very careful for being here.

After enjoyed explored the bridge and fascinating view, we got down from there at 4 PM. So we spent almost our half time we had in there. By the way we had to back from Langkawi to main land at 6 PM, because it was the last ferry schedule. So we recommend that you all come here early, especially on weekend.
That's all, the story of our experience in Langkawi. It would be nice if i can visit this beautiful Langkawi again, with you.
